Institut Pasteur of Shanghai (IPS) is an independent research institution jointly established by Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Institut Pasteur and Shanghai Municipal Government. IPS is dedicated to enhancing preparedness and responsiveness to infectious diseases through conducting cutting-edge research and sustained translation of solutions.

Our research laboratory is a newly established unit at the IPS and the Center for Microbes, Development and Health (CMDH). We are working at the interface of microbiology, cell biology and bioengineering and our research is primally focused on the understanding of host and microbes interactions. In particular, we are studying the role and organization of microbial ecosystem at the intestinal interface and we are aiming to understand how physical forces impact these interactions in health and disease. To do so, we are using cutting edge technologies in genome-engineering, microfluidics and microfabrication such as organ on chip. The successful candidates will join an international and highly multidisciplinary work environment.

Position 1：Junior Postdoctoral Fellow

Job Description:

The main project aims to develop new human organ on chip models where cell diversity will be preserved together with microbiota co-culture. In-vivo like environment will be recreated using microfabrication/microfluidics technologies as recently published in our lab (Grassart et al, 2019, Cell Host & Microbe). Research will be mainly dedicated to mimic gut interface but other epithelial barriers are also considered and could be discussed with the candidate. This project is highly interdisciplinary and successful candidate will have closed interactions with other team members and other groups at the CMDH (genomics and proteomics).

Depending on candidates, other projects could be discussed.

Qualifications:

-Highly motivated, curious and creative applicant with a Ph.D and an expertise in Cell/Tissue Biology and/or cell host microbes interactions.

-Expertise in stem cells culture will be an asset

-Based on the interdisciplinary of the lab, open mind and ability to work as part of a team is mandatory
-Excellent English communication is expected. Team is international and it is expected that candidate will present results in meetings, international conferences and journal publication.

Position 2: Junior Investigator with PhD or Engineering degree in microfluidics

Job Description

The candidate will be working on the establishment and validation of new microfluidics tools for screening and deep mining intestinal microbiota using droplet microfluidics associated to genomics, transcriptomics and proteomic analysis. It is expected that the successful candidate will assume a leading role in chip design, fabrication and operation. He/She will work in close collaboration with other team members of the lab and other research groups regarding OMICs analysis. Depending on candidates, other projects related to bioengineering and organ on chips development could be discussed.

Qualifications:

-Highly motivated, curious and creative applicant with a Ph.D or engineering degree in Bioengineering/microfluidics

- Solid and profound experience in Microfabrication/microfluidics is preferred rather than list of publications.

-Experience working in cell biology/microbiology lab would be a plus.

-Based on the interdisciplinary of the lab, open mind and ability to work as part of a team is mandatory
-Excellent English communication is expected. Team is international and it is expected that candidate will present results in meetings, international conferences and journal publication.

Position 3: Junior Research Assistant

Job Description:

-Draft procedures and laboratory protocols in English.

-Communicate with different groups and departments for example HR, Finance and Purchase departments to facilitate laboratory operations.

-Support in process/analytical methods/validation/cleaning/maintenance of laboratory equipment.

-Strictly follow the rules and regulations, participate in laboratory management and maintain laboratory safety.

-Prepare monthly/weekly summary reports for equipment/instrument operations and laboratory related activities.

-Assist members of the laboratory in conducting experiments.

-Communicate with collaborators on experiment schedules and procurement of biological samples.

-Maintain logs for biological samples, biobank and supplies for the laboratory.

Qualifications:

- Master degree in biology or life sciences.

-Have good professional ethics, personality and morality

-Have good communication skills in both English and Chinese

-Experience in biological laboratory procedures

-Have strong leaning ability, coordination skills and good teamwork spirit.

-Can take initiatives and execute laboratory operations.
